Brands in Motion

Next week, Shoreditch's Old Truman Brewery will open its doors, welcoming buyers and press from all over the globe to London, as Jacket Required hosts an international line-up of over 250 labels showcasing autumn/winter 2015 collections.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then these few minutes in film highlight even further the labels who will join us, the inspiration behind each collection and what it means to each avid aficionado who both inspires and in turn is inspired by the brands.

Today, we highlight a selection of brands in motion. See the full list so far on the Jacket Required Brand Page of the website.

Should you not yet have received an invitation to the next edition, taking place on 4 & 5 February 2015, please confirm your details on the Jacket Required website.

Sandqvist

Specialist bag maker Sandqvist presents a visual biography of the origins of the brand with a soon to be released short film, From Nordic Landscapes, to highlight how Swedish typography and landscapes inform and influence materials and aesthetics used in the Sandqvist brand.

Filmed at various locations in Scandinavia throughout the year, founders of the brand Anton and Daniel Sandqvist and Sebastian Westin share their story against a backdrop of rural Swedish countryside. Filmed by friend of Jacket Required, British videographer and photographer Ivan Ogilvie – the team ride motorcycles, go hiking and fishing and experience the great outdoors to share how from a single bag crafted on an small industrial sewing machine, the brand has grown to be one of the most successful Swedish labels on the market.

CAT x Christopher Shannon

Having successfully launched its inaugural collaboration for the spring/summer 2015 season, international luxury menswear designer Christopher Shannon partners with Cat Footwear again for autumn/winter 2015, with a limited-edition collection, re-working the Colorado boot which transformed the rugged boot market with its launch 23 years ago.

Created in three different types of nylon meshes which emphasise a technical feel and 3D effect, the Cat Footwear x Christopher Shannon boot maintains a sleek, monochrome silhouette. For winter, Shannon looks to canvas, to create a range of two modern industrial boots exploring the original ideas from the initial partnership whilst still keeping the boot relevant for the new season – pushing boundaries and breaking new ground.

Deus Ex Machina

When Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn visited Truck Furniture in Osaka, Japan, in May 2014, as a longtime fan of the furniture crafted at Truck, he met owner Tokuhiko Kise, spending several hours discussing design, art, architecture, travel and a mutual love of vintage motorcycles. Sharing a likeminded design philosophy, in turn began a friendship, as the pair kept in touch over the summer months.

And so in August 2014, as Tokyo was named as the destination of a new Deus ex Machina store opening, Kenn was commissioned to create a few sofas for the shop. Reuniting in California, the duo created three Stephen Kenn Inheritance Collection sofas in signature Truck Furniture materials – one in soft brown ‘dirt’ suede leather, and two in wide wale olive corduroy. With the collection a success – Kenn and Kise loaned two vintage Triumph motorcycles from the Deus ex Machina shop in Venice, California – and set out on a road trip, a reminder that design is more than just about making things, it’s also about whom you get to meet and learn from along the way.

Parka London

The autumn/winter 2015 collection from Parka London looks to the Northern skies for its inspiration. With harsh Icelandic and Nordic winters influencing the collection in keeping with the brand’s aesthetic, this season celebrates the parka in its entirety.

Teaming up with a number of industry professionals, this short film by Parka London provides an insight into the evolution of the Parka, including some personal experiences with the iconic garment from names such as fashion journalist David Hellqvist, fashion editor of Esquire magazine Catherine Hayward and fashion consultant Phillip Bush.

Visit Parka London to experience the brand's timeless collection of mens and womenswear.
