London Fashion Week Men’s: the need to know trends
Fashion couldn’t have hit the ground running any quicker in time for 2020. In case you missed it, London Fashion Week Men’s brought men’s fashion to the UK capital from 4
th to 6
th January. Continuing its long-standing residency in Jacket Required’s home, The Old Truman Brewery, LFWM brought the trends to our doorstep. Here’s what we learned:
Sustainability is a big deal
From responsible sourcing by fashion up-and-comer Priya Ahluwalia to local manufacturing over at Patrick Grant’s E. Tautz, green took on a whole new meaning on this season’s catwalks, as more and more of our design favourites jump on the eco train.
Check yourself
A perennial punk favourite, and iconic London print, check made a spectacular return to AW20 collections. Everything from the most minute houndstooth to mix and match tartans were on display on catwalks as menswear continues to get more adventurous.
A new decade for denim
Denim came back in a big way this season, and the prevailing preference seems to be for acid washes, bleached styles and a new era for raw denim. Catwalks featured everything from oversized silhouettes to more classic cuts, whilst patchwork trench coats, overalls and tuxedos gave denim a brand-new lease of life.
Inside out
True to the autumn/ winter season, outerwear was kind of a big deal this year, with everything from windcheaters to oversized trenches on the menu. Alongside different cuts, designers served up new materials, like quilting, denim and vinyl. Styles to watch out for this season? Utlitarian outerwear and the return of the 1980s double breasted trench.
The age of accessories
We’re not talking about the “man bag”, we’re talking more futurisitic. Think leather gloves and utility harnesses, which have been making their way into the mainstream over the past year thanks to the likes of Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh.
