Meet the buyer… Martina Vitali

Every season, Jacket Required attracts buyers and visitors from some of the most sought-after retailers in the industry. We sat down with a few of the experts to get their point of view on this season’s trends, their take on the AW19 Jacket Required edition and have a glimpse into the life of a fashion buyer.

Tell us a bit more about your concept

1n1 fashion n pizza was born in 2015, when me and my boyfriend, Andrea, came over to England together. It was too difficult for us at the time to open two separate shops and, so we decided to bring our two passions together to create a lifestyle and experience; we want people to come into our shop and feel like they’re at home. As I said, we opened our first pop up shop in 2015 and after a year we opened our HQ in Spitalfields.

How would you sum up your aesthetic?

I wanted to give a platform to emerging designers and small businesses, so this is what I’m always looking for. I don’t normally select big brands, as London is full of chains now. We are an independent store, so I want to keep everything inside independent too. I like to have a relationship with the brands and our is a mix of accessories and some clothes.

What are you looking for at Jacket Required?

I am always looking to discover new brands and since I came last year, I know Jacket Required is a good place to do this, especially for menswear. Since we are in the city, a large proportion of our customers are men, so I want to make sure I’m up to date with the products and trends they’re looking for. Our male customers are loving menswear accessories at the moment so I’m looking around for inspiration.

Are there any trends your excited to see?

It’s always changing now, as it’s more about style now. Everyone has their own unique style and trends are not so important to our customers. I’m looking for hats in particular as I’m seeing people wearing them at the moment. People keep asking me about short beanies at the moment, so I’ve got my eye out for them today.

What does sustainable fashion mean to you?

This was actually part of my thesis at university and it’s something I’ve been interested in for a while now. I think it’s the most important thing, especially at this time in the world as everything’s changing and I really hope more brands are bringing sustainability into the industry. I’m definitely paying more attention to my brands’ sustainable credentials.

Why London?

I studied fashion communication in Milan and I actually moved to London to learn the language. It was just an experience and just for fun, but then we discovered a different economic and retail landscape from Italy, in particular the pop-up culture which hasn’t taken off in Italy. I also feel like London-style is more “me” and so feel much more at home with the fashion.

Save the date: Jacket Required’s summer edition will take place 24th and 25th July.
