Native North brings contemporary Scandinavian designs to Jacket Required
High-quality fabric choices, Scandinavian design and attention to detail are the foundations of contemporary menswear brand Native North.
Inspired by craftsmanship, culture and nature, this young Copenhagen-based brand is bringing its stylish, utilitarian designs to Jacket Required this January.
We spoke to founder and designer Morten Hvidtsted ahead of the show to find out more.
Morten, what’s the story behind Native North?
I founded Native North in 2014 after living in China for years manufacturing and designing for other brands. I had too many ideas in my head to ignore and that’s what founded Native North.
How would you describe the brand’s style?
We want Native North to be seen as ‘Danish design garments’. The style is simple Scandinavian yet functional. We do an eclectic blend of timeless silhouettes in high-quality fabrics, fabrics for contemporary every day.
What prompted your decision to enter the UK market and exhibit at Jacket Required AW19?
Jacket Required fits our profile very well and I think Native North is basically made for the UK market. We have a lot of UK customers using our webshop and a lot of people contacting us from the UK. With that said, I think it’s easy to build a bridge between the Native North style and the traditional utilitarian, almost formal workwear styles you often see in the UK – and Scandinavia.
Do you already have existing accounts in the UK?
Yes, we have a few accounts in the UK, however the market is basically untouched for us. We are a young brand still but the few accounts we have today have all had great sell through, and we look forward to seeing them again at Jacket Required and meeting more potential stockists.
Who are you looking to meet at Jacket Required AW19?
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make the show, but my partner Greg will be present to meet our colleagues, friends and stockists.
What can we look forward to seeing from you at Jacket Required AW19?
Perhaps the strongest Autumn/Winter collection from Native North yet. Because of our Scandinavian roots and the northern weather conditions we live in, it's more natural for us to develop heavier garments. You will see a lot of value-for-money styles, a few wind-waterproof jackets, cashmere-merino sweaters, woollen button shirts, quality trousers, and our favourite Jacquard fabric redone as a sporty big-pocket jacket – a must try.
