Tretorn brings back the 1968 Olympic Sneaker for SS20

Tretorn is bringing back an old classic for the SS20 season. Discover the Olympic Sneaker at Jacket Required.

For the summer season and in time for the summer Olympics 2020 in Japan, Tretorn brings back an icon from the Olympic games 1968 in Mexico City. Tretorn was the official sneaker for the Swedish Olympic team in Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972. The model was called Olympic and was an updated version of the classic Nylite. For SS20 Tretorn is launching a tribute version of the iconic sneaker with a mix of old-school feel and contemporary eco elements. It’s made in high quality Eco leather, Natural rubber soles, and updated in comfort, fit and design.
“Tretorn is one of the world’s oldest sneaker brands, celebrating 120 years as a sneaker manufacturer in 2020 and as a tribute to the long sneaker heritage and the upcoming summer Olympics in japan we are re-launching our iconic Olympic sneaker under the name Mexico 68,” says Fredrik Ekström, Creative Director for Tretorn/

Mexico 68

The Mexico 68 sneaker is made as a contemporary replica from the original Olympic. It is made in high end Eco LITE (Low Impact on The Environment) certified Leather from TanTec using solar power, wetlands and strict regulations on traceability. It’s been updated with a bouncing sole containing 50% natural rubber from small farms that give the sneaker a bouncing effect and increased comfort. The insole is created with recycled construction for better fit and longevity.
Design elements on the sneaker are inspired from the original with stitched gullwing and perforated holes. The shoelaces come in six different colours matching the range of colours in the Olympic games as a tribute to the original use of the sneaker. The graphic design elements are inspired from the unique design that surrounded the games 1968 also referred to as the design Olympics.
