In an industry where collaboration is key, the Jacket Required team are delighted to share the news of Tretorn's collaboration with iconic designer Nigel Cabourn ahead of the SS20 edition.
THE COLLECTION IS A TRIBUTE TO THE EXTREME WILDERNESS IN SAREK, SWEDEN.
The collaboration between Tretorn and Nigel Cabourn is based on a shared ethos and passion for creating garments that are produced to the highest quality; are functional in detail, timeless in design and show respect to the natural environment. The collaboration is a three-piece collection containing: jacket, bag and sneaker. All products in the collection are made in Organic or recycled Ventile and are part of the Tretorn Eco Essentials initiative.
Tretorn was established 1891 in Sweden and have a long heritage in crafting hiking boots and functional wear for the extreme conditions in SAREK, the largest untouched wilderness in Europe.
“Tretorn introduced me to Sarek in northern Sweden, one of Europe's last true wilderness areas, which I found very exciting and inspirational. The result is that each item in this collaboration has a sense of the place that inspires it and is made with care and respect to the natural environment – underpinned by Tretorn’s credentials through the Eco-Essentials Initiative”, says Nigel Cabourn about the collaboration
SAREK National Park is a 1970 km2 national park in the western part of Jokkmokk municipality in Lapland and was formed in 1909. The park is one of the oldest national parks in Europe and is Sweden's largest high mountain area where the indigenous Saami people have lived and followed the reindeer migration since ancient times. It’s considered the largest untouched wilderness in Europe and protected as a world heritage site by UNESCO since 1995. Since mid 1900 Tretorn have been making hiking boots for the area and in 1972 Tretorn was so connected to the region that the brand was granted to TradeMark SAREK.
“With the Tretorn X Nigel Cabourn SAREK collaboration we aim to engage the modern conscious consumer by combining our heritage with environmental consciousness, fuse it with the adventurous spirit of outdoor enthusiasts and make it ready for everyday life,” says Fredrik Ekström, Creative Director Tretorn
“The collection is sprung from the passion of finding a sustainable outdoor lifestyle, the love of the rivers and the surrounding mountains in SAREK, so all products are made in highest quality, are functional in detail, timeless in design and shows great respect to the environment,” continues Fredrik
At the heart of Tretorn is the passion for the Scandinavian outdoors, and a desire to explore the natural world. Caring for nature has always been a part of the Tretorn lifestyle. And Tretorn has been there all along, crafting footwear, apparel and bags for the Scandinavian weather since 1891.
“Usually when I collaborate with brands we’re either making clothes, shoes or accessories but with Tretorn we’re producing all three – which I’ve never done before. But the magic of Tretorn is that this is possible so we’ve created a three-piece combination of jacket, shoe and bag all made in organic Ventile so it’s pretty special,” says Nigel Cabourn
“The collaboration is built on the idea of creating a 70’s top to toe hiking style, based on three selected heritage pieces from the archive and mix this with a contemporary interpretation of life in SAREK,” says Johanna Gartmyr, Lead Outerwear Designer for Tretorn
“We started with the traditional smock and made this in a updated contemporary design for a urban appeal and used a very exclusive Organic Ventile which makes the jacket both water repellent and breathable depending on your body heat”. Johanna continues about the jacket.
